The iPhone 4S was a bit of a disappointment for millions of people around the world as it was very similar to the iPhone 4 Many were actually quite shocked that Apple would essentially rebrand the iPhone 4 and present it to the iPhone 4S, as both phones had the same exact design. Only the processor and the virtual assistant in Siri, made the iPhone 4S different from the iPhone 4. Even though the iPhone 4S has been a hit in terms of sales, there are millions and millions of iPhone 4 users who skipped on the upgrade, to obviously upgrade to the iPhone 5 instead of the iPhone 4S. Below, you will find a quick roundup of the specs, news and rumors that have been generated on the iPhone 5 which is due to be released for sure, in 2012.
iPhone 5 – Expected Specs and features
iPhone 5 4G LTE
It is now the 4G generation. 4G speeds, especially LTE speeds, can result in download speeds of up to 32Mbps which makes 3G look like something that came out in the 1970′s. Considering the fact that 4G has taken off quite amazingly in terms of popularity, Apple would be making a huge blunder if the iPhone 5 does not come with 4G LTE support. Several rumors actually suggested that Apple desperately tried to include4G LTE support in the iPhone’s existing 3.5 frame although they just couldn’t do so because the phone was just too small for the rather large 4G LTE chips. This essentially means that the iPhone 5 will get a larger screen, probably 4 or 4.3 inches, if it has to incorporate 4G LTE technology. More about the screen size is discussed below.

iPhone 5 Screen size – What will it be?
This question is quite a teaser as there are so many things that could affect the screen size of the iPhone 5, apart from the space required to accommodate large LTE chips. First off, it is public knowledge that Steve Jobs firmly believed that 3.5 inches was the perfect screen size for the iPhone 5.Steve Jobs gave utmost importance to the design element of his products and felt that the 3.5 inch screen was just the “perfect” size for a phone. Even just before his death, he expressed his opinion that he still thought that the 3.5 inch screen was the best size for the iPhone, both current and future. Steve Jobs also believed that anything more than a 3.5 inch screen will result in a strain on the battery that Apple just does not tolerate.
Another pressing problem that might prevent the iPhone 5 from getting a larger screen is that a larger screen might not allow Apple to incorporate it’s high quality retina display resolution on a larger screen. If the screen is going to be bigger than 3.5 inches, it would obviously be difficult to pack in the same amount of pixels per square inch, thereby compromising the quality of the screen. There have been rumors that seemed to suggest that Apple just couldn’t figure out a way to maintain the quality of the retina display on a screen that was larger than 3.5 inches, suggesting that Apple might keep the screen size of the iPhone 5 at just 3.5 inches, instead of increasing it to 4 or 4.3 inches.
What will be the release date of the iPhone 5?
Apple has always been secretive about release dates for its products. As a result, we can only guess the possible release date for the next generation iPhone, the iPhone 5. There are some who suggest that the iPhone 5 will be released in June of 2012. But, what people fail to understand is that the summer release dates at Apple have traditionally been reserved for the iPad models. With several rumors suggesting that the iPad 3 has entered production stage, it is very likely that the iPhone 5 will not be released in June or July of 2012, along with the release of the iPad 3.
Quite recently, we read some very interesting rumors or assumptions that suggested that the iPhone 5 will be released on the first death anniversary of Steve Jobs, who passed away on October 5, 2011. We agree that October 5, 2012 is the most likely release date of the iPhone 5 as the date also coincides with the traditional release date of Apple products in the fall, with Apple trying to put out a product just before the holiday season, where people are most likely to shell out about $300 or $400 on an Apple product.
What else can you expect to see in the iPhone 5?
Though the vast majority of iPhone lovers are anticipating a larger screen and 4G LTE speeds, there are also some iPhone fans who want to see a faster processor and a new OS in the iPhone 5, when it does come out. There have been a few rumors that have seemed to suggest that the iPhone 5 is going to get a super fast quad core processor, along with a much more sophisticated and easy to use IOS6 Though these sensational rumors about a exciting new quad core processor sound very inviting, we think that the iPhone 5 will get the same A5 processor that has been used in the 4S. If anything, the RAM might be upgraded to 1GB, instead of the 512 MB that is currently being used in the 4S.
Honestly, we think that a quad core processor is overkill for a cell phone. If anything the clock speed of the A5 processor might be increased in the iPhone 5 model. Although the iPhone 5′s processor will remain the same as the 4S, we think that the OS will be upgraded to IOS6 that will be able to support extra features such as NFC, 3D camera mode, panoramic camera mode, facial unlocking and wireless data transfer between Apple devices.
